Skills Development Counsellor


Skills Development and Employment Counsellor: Specializing in the provision of services to Recent Immigrants, Francophone and Visible Minorities.

Are you well organized, and a self-starter? Do you have experience working with Immigrants, Francophone Communities and visible minorities, to reach their professional and personal potential? We are looking for an Employment and Skills Development Counsellor to provide these highly individualized services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Collaboratively working with Piers team members to ensure optimal client-centered services are offered on a daily basis, and that program and participant targets are being met,
-Establishing cooperative and strong working relationships within the communities we are serving, including businesses, training institutions, program partners and community service providers,
-Providing intake and assessment services and developing a mutually agreed upon training plan for each participant,
-Providing in-house training in essential skills, soft skills, and life skills,
-Develop and revise curriculum as required and/or arrange supports to ensure success,
-Provide job search services, seek out, acquire and maintain job placements relevant to the clients needs and recent training,
-Provide one-on-one assistance to individuals around job search, such as online applications, informational interviewing workshops, calling employers (on behalf of or assisting the participant to do so) etc., and
-Arranging financial supports or other needed services for clients participating in the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Certificate, diploma or degree, 2 years experience working with vulnerable populations, employment counselling or a combination of equivalent experience and/or training
- Additional languages an asset
- Self-starter who is highly skilled in marketing and job coaching activities for individuals with barriers to employment
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance
- Flexibility to travel as required
- Strong computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and a keen eye for details required.
- Clean Criminal Record Check (upon hiring)

This position is full-time, Monday through Friday (8:30am-4:00pm).
