Your Dollar Store With More Inc. is Canada’s largest chain of franchised dollar stores. Operating out of our head office in Kelowna, we have 114 stores across 9 provinces in Canada. 3 stores are corporately owned.
We are searching for a solid financial professional, who is proactive and collaborative with a hands-on approach. Reporting to the COO and CEO, the successful candidate will have a high degree of integrity and be responsible for the day-to-day financial activities of the organization.
Oversee the accounting and financial functions of the organization.
Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, tax filings (GST, PST) for 5 operating entities.
Manage daily banking and payroll (Ceridian) for head office operating unit.
Review and approve payroll (Ceridian) for corporate stores.
Manage accounting system, reports, disbursements and documentation for Franchisee Marketing Fund which operates as one of the 5 operating units.
Manage account collections and ensure contract compliance.
Manage documentation, reporting and dispersal of annual preferred supplier rebate program.
Supervise an experienced accounting team of 1 member (accounts payable, payroll and accounts receivable) including delegation of tasks, performance management and mentoring.
Take a lead role in developing, implementing and monitoring internal controls, processes and policies ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial information.
Assist in the creation, tracking and analysis of operational performance indicators.
Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, cost analysis and other analytics necessary for strategic decision making.
Review payroll with a high degree of accuracy and ensure payroll practices comply with the British Columbia Labour Code and workplace policies and procedures for 50+ employees.
Monitor bank account balances.
Ensure compliance with payroll and other regulatory requirements.
Prepare a year end working paper file, liaise with the external accountants, and manage the external financial review process.
Various reports, projects and duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience and previous supervision experience
Strong computer software literacy skills (including MS Excel). Experience with Quick Books Enterprise is preferred.
Through experience, demonstrate: strong attention to detail; exceptional problem-solving skills; high degree of common sense and strategic business acumen; effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time for self and direct reports; and supervise and manage performance of staff.
