Hours: 1 weekend/month

Overview:

FOJMS is a Person-Centered Non-Profit Organization that provides one-on-one integrated support services to a young man (J) with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We are looking for a fun, energetic Respite Provider to provide overnight support and individualized care for J on a casual weekend basis in the Respite Provider’s home. J is from an active, inclusive family, and we hope the Respite Provider will build a meaningful and engaged relationship with J and the family. The Respite Provider will provide safe, respectful, and inclusive support to the client while building an interactive and engaged relationship with J. The Respite Provider will be provided with excellent remuneration, training, consultation, and as much support as needed in order to provide the best space possible for J.


Duties:

• Participate in daily activities with J, assisting J in enjoying these activities
• Support J in creating positive, meaningful experiences and relationships
• Provide verbal cues and directions to J to ensure enjoyment and safety
• Transportation of J self to and from activities
• Assisting J in personal care and day-to-day living activities
• Maintain relevant documentation for J (ex: daily activities summary)
• Be an active participant with J, and have fun!


Qualifications:

• Experience in OR interest in working with adults with developmental disabilities and special needs (experience with Autism an asset)
• Physically healthy and able to participate in physical activities
• Comfortable working with adults with diverse abilities, including those who use unique forms of communication rather than verbal
• Willing to provide personal care to J
• Ability to go with the flow, have fun, and laugh!


Requirements:

• Respite Provider must have a separate bedroom in the home with a bed for J during his weekend stay
• Must consent to a Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector and comply with the Criminal Records Review Act
• Valid B.C. driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract
• Reliable vehicle
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C
• Food Safe certificate an asset
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training an asset
• An ability to laugh and have fun
• Willing to work evenings and weekends
