This position would act as an on-call instructor for both the Youth Explore Trades Sampler programs and Women in Trades Sampler programs. Trades Sampler programs offers high school students, young adults, and female students an opportunity to dive into a variety of trades, learn practical skills, and gain general employment certifications as they search for their preferred career path. The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one’s field, instructional and professional duties, professional developments and service. Education and Experience:

1. Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.

2. An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.

3. An Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

4. Six to ten years recent relevant experience.

Functions and Duties:

Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:
Instructional (teaching assignments)
Course and program preparation and revision
Student contact
Student advising
Evaluation and marking of student work
Other functions related to instruction

Professional duties may include any or all of the following:
Curriculum development
Student registration
Pre-registration duties

Service may include any or all of the following:
School visitations
Participation on OC committees
Attendance at articulation meetings
Representing OC at other functions
Administrative and other duties

Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Skills and Abilities:

Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline. The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

Red Seal in one or more of the following trades: Automotive Service Technician, Carpenter, Electrician, Plumber, Sheet Metal Worker, and/or Welder.

Schedule:
Given on-call nature of position, schedule and frequency of instruction may vary.

Programs are typically ten to twelve weeks in length, however, length of appointment would depend on the type of coverage required.

Typical instructional week is Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day and would not exceed 30 hours.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate:
Salary range $62,828 to $100,958 annually; normal starting salary between $69,017 and $75,206 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
