Health and Safety Officer
SRI Homes - Kelowna, a division of Champion Canada International ULC (Canada’s largest producer of manufactured housing) is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer at our manufacturing plant located at the northern end of Kelowna, in Winfield.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Health & Safety Officer (HSO) is responsible for managing the Health & Safety Program to ensure ongoing safety of the Production facility and all its employees.
Develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and standards to support Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S)
Liaise with and report to WorkSafe BC and other official regulatory bodies on safety matters
Facilitate and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and activities
Conduct Safety Orientation Sessions for new staff and ongoing safety training for current staff
Following up on and tracking corrective actions stemming from incident investigations, audits, inspections and hazard reports
Maintaining health and safety records and completing compliance inspection reports
Compile statistical data and reports as required by work safe BC and Management
Responsible for regular plant inspections and monitoring for compliance Oversee first aid program
Promote Health and Safety leadership amongst employees and contractors
Ensure risk mitigation is considered by performing safety plant evaluations, audits and inspections
Support implementation of High Potential Risk Control and Occupational Health and Hygiene strategies
Claims management
Manage Graduated Return to Work and facilitate between management staff and injured worker on GRTW Program
Perform respect in the workplace investigations
Other administrative duties as assigned
Prepares, updates and maintains various HR records including employee records, training records, organizational charts, reports, presentations, etc.
Coordinating new hire onboarding schedule, activities and materials and conducting orientations
Familiar with the COR safety program
The ideal candidate will have:
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent applicable experience
CRSP Designation or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years working in a health & safety role.
Previous experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
Respect in the workplace investigation experience/knowledge
Supervisory experience
OFA Level 2 or 3 or equivalent will be considered an asset
Must be organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision but be part of a team environment and have a high level of initiative and resourcefulness.
