Your Opportunity:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Campus Operations and the general supervision of the Regional Dean, provides gardening/landscaping services in the Vernon campus’ Indigenous Garden and performs other related duties as required to support the activities of the Indigenous Garden tours.

Education and Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Basic knowledge of gardening.

Functions and Duties:

1. Basic Garden Maintenance including:
monitoring the health of all plants
watering plants and ensuring irrigation is working
pruning trees, hedges and shrubs,
mowing green spaces,
managing weed control
leaf raking
emptying bins
planting gardens and boxes,
keeping the garden clear of debris and litter
keeping the garden sheds organized and tidy

2. Assisting the Indigenous Garden Coordinator, with the logistics of the Garden Tours including:
Set up and tear down of furnishing required
Harvesting plants for presentations and gifts
Install signage
Assist visitors to access the Garden

3. Performs pick-up and delivery duties in connection with garden functions.

4. Performs light maintenance duties if required.

5. Reports major maintenance requirements to the Indigenous Garden Coordinator.

6. Ensures fire and occupational health and safety practices are followed.

Skills and Abilities:

Skilled in the safe use of garden/landscaping equipment.
Able to perform work of a routine nature with minimal or no direct supervision.
Friendly personality with strong interpersonal skills.
An understanding of health and safety rules.
Must be physically capable of performing the duties including lifting up to 25-30 lbs and walking on uneven surfaces.
This position requires working in inclement weather so applicants must have appropriate clothing for wet and/or hot weather.

Monday to Friday - 30 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate:
$22.70 - $25.94
