Accounting Technician


Ohlmann & Associates is a growing accountancy practice focused on businesses and individuals. We currently seek an enthusiastic, hard-working, teammate as an accounting technician.

Responsibilities of this position include:

- Bookkeeping (including payroll, GST, PST & WCB)
- Corporate year end files (Notice to Reader)
- Personal tax return (T1) preparation.

Experience in these areas would be necessary to be successful in this role. Corporate taxation experience is a benefit, but is not required.

The position is full time, with high demands during the personal tax season. This position is extremely busy March - May and availability during this time is a requirement (this includes Spring Break, and is not flexible unfortunately). However, the remainder of the year allows for a fair bit more flexibility to be exercised in designing a schedule to meet the needs of the right individual.

The ability to multi-task, commitment to meeting client needs, displaying a positive attitude, and having a keen eye for detail are essential skills to succeed in this role. The successful candidate will work closely with the owner, is expected to have a wide range of responsibilities, diverse skills, and a genuine desire to learn and develop further.

Required Education, Skills and Abilities:

- 2+ years of experience in a Bookkeeper or Accounting Technician role is required (with sound bookkeeping/accounting skills, including experience with sales tax & government remittances)
- 2+ years of experience preparing personal (T1) tax returns is required, including having worked with self employment, rental, and investment income reporting on tax returns
- Experience with Sage 50 (Simply Accounting) is required
- Experience with QuickBooks (Desktop/Online) &/or Xero is beneficial * - Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (namely Word & Excel) is required
- Being able to prioritize workloads and work under pressure to meet deadlines is required
- An ability to interact with our clients in a professional manner is required
- Analytical and problem-solving skills are required
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are required
- Recent public accounting experience and experience with Caseware are beneficial
- A sense of humor is required
