A walk Saturday in Riverside Park will aim to raise money for youth mental health services.

The second annual Nicholas’ Run for Youth Mental Health will have participants run or walk a scenic five-kilometre route around Riverside Park.

Last year, 250 people showed up for the inaugural event, and organizers hope to see an even better turnout this weekend.

Proceeds will go to the Nicholas Zhou Legacy Fund at the BC Interior Community Foundation, which was created in his memory to raise awareness and hope for young people struggling with mental health. Zhou struggled with depression and died at 19.

“This run is not just a race; it’s a way to raise awareness, start conversations and show support for young people facing mental health challenges,” organizer Rie Takahashi said. “Whether you’re running, walking or cheering from the sidelines, your presence makes a difference.”

Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome, and registration can be done ahead of time or the morning of the run.

The event is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. and conclude at noon.

Last year’s event raised nearly $17,000.
