Two Okanagan newspapers are cutting down on the number of days they publish a paper edition.

The Kelowna Courier will be down to just two days per week—Wednesday and Saturday—while the Penticton Herald will produce three editions, on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The new schedule will start on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Both newspapers cited “financial realities” in making the move, as most newspaper revenue continues to drop thanks to the digital age.

Subscription rates will remain the same, with the papers hoping it “will help align expenses with revenue, ensuring the sustainability of operations.” The papers will be much larger, meaning readers will receive the same number of pages each week.

Both papers used to be published seven days a week. A valleywide Sunday edition stopped printing in 2018, and the press stopped producing Monday papers in 2019.

Continental Newspapers is the majority owner of the Daily Courier and Herald, while Glacier, which owns Castanet and Okanagan Edge, is in a minority ownership role.
