TRU begins president search
Thompson Rivers University is now actively recruiting a new president following a lengthy consultation process over the summer.
Brett Fairbairn announced he would be stepping down from the president’s chair last year.
In April, the university’s board of governors put together a presidential search committee that includes TRU faculty, administrators, board members, a staff member, a student and representative from Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, among others.
From July until September, the university held several open forums, opened up an online survey and set up an email address for community members to share feedback on who should lead TRU next.
Following the consultation period, the committee met again in September to review the feedback.
“A candidate profile has now been developed and advertising and recruiting has now begun,” the committee said in an update on its website on Monday. “The committee will meet again over the next few months to review progress and looks forward to interviewing potential candidates in 2025.”
The search process becomes confidential once the committee begins accepting applications, the committee’s website states.
According to TRU’s annual executive compensation report, Fairbairn was paid a base salary of $320,981 last year. With benefits and pension, his pay adds up to $366,429—about a $37,000 increase over 2022.
From April 2023 to March 2024, Fairbairn’s travel expenses added up to $66,632.
