Carnival hires new boss
The Vernon Winter Carnival has a new executive director.
Lisa Fenyedi will be taking the helm of the popular event, which will celebrate its 65th year when it is held Feb. 7-16, 2025.
Fenyedi is no stranger to carnivals. She has three years experience working as either the event and administrative assistant or on the board of directors.
Fenyedi attended her first carnival parade in 2012 and was captivated by the enthusiasm and enjoyment of both participants and attendees. It left a lasting impression, prompting her to join the carnival society in 2022.
New carnival directors are Ben Drodge, Corinne van de Crommenacker, Kara Mason, Ryan McGiverin and Vicki Proulx.
Camille McCluskey, Colin Hamilton, Josh Welter, Peter Kaz, Rod Koenig and Roel van de Crommenacker will return as directors.
Laurell Cornell will remain as the carnival chairwoman, with Leah Martel as the vice-chair, Boris Ivanoff as treasurer and Jason Keis as secretary.
“I’m really excited for this new board. It’s a great mix of experience and new ideas,” Fenyedi said. “Going into our 65th Vernon Winter Carnival, striking that balance between creativity and tradition is so important, and I am confident that this is the team to make our 65th year one to remember.”
‘Back to the ’80s’ has been announced as the 2025 carnival theme.
“There are so many opportunities to host fun events, dress up and participate in events, and opportunities to rock your parade float or the best decorated competition with this theme,” Cornell said. “The ’80s gave us so much, which is one of the many reasons why we are so excited to revisit them as only Vernon Winter Carnival, our sponsors, event organizers, participants and volunteers can.
“The Vernon Winter Carnival has thrived over the last 64 years due to many dedicated and community minded people. Vernon Winter Carnival 2025 promises to deliver another fantastic festival with new directors and executive director all full of energy and enthusiasm. As chair of VWC I would like to thank the thousands of volunteers who have put in countless hours. Without them carnival would cease to exist.”
