Variety-the Children’s Charity and Global BC once again teamed up to raise millions for B.C. children.

The annual Variety Show of Hearts telethon over the weekend brought in more than $6.3 million for the charity, which supports children and youth with special needs across the province.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity of Variety supporters at a time when the need from kids with more complex health care needs has never been greater,” Variety BC CEO Andrea Tang said in a press release. “The Show of Hearts is a powerful example of what is possible when people across the province come together for B.C.’s kids.

“Thank you to everyone who supported this year. You have brought hope to so many children and families who have been waiting to hear if Variety can provide the critical support they need.”

The final tally was the result of fundraising efforts throughout the year from individual donors and corporations, community events and groups, and school fundraisers. Sunday’s telethon included performances by Sarah McLachlan, Jim Cuddy, Fefe Dobson, Tyler Shaw and Sacha.

“As expected, people across B.C. stepped up in a big way,” Global BC station manager Bhupinder Hundal said. “My heart is full knowing that so many children and families will have their lives positively impacted. A big thank you to all Global BC viewers and Variety supporters for their generosity.”
