Want to help immigrants find their footing in the South Okanagan? Project Welcome is seeking volunteer mentors.

Through South Okanagan Immigrant & Community Services, Project Welcome connects immigrating professionals who are exploring settlement options in regional communities with professionals who already live and work there.

Mentors will provide insight into the community and help the newcomers network—a benefit that goes both ways.

According to SOICS, mentoring fosters leadership and coaching skills, offers the opportunity to find potential employees for labour shortage in the community, and enables greater knowledge about business practices and professions in other countries as the economy becomes increasingly global.

To qualify as a mentor, you must:
• Have two or more years of professional experience in Canada
• Commit to one hour per week of online time with the mentee, for six to eight weeks
• Have a passion for helping new immigrants in their job search

Anyone interested can learn more by reaching out to Elmira Galiyeva or Michiko Nelson at SOICS, [email protected] or [email protected].
