Kelowna’s RainStick will test its pilot project in B.C.’s Gulf Islands.

A trio of Thompson Okanagan companies has been included in the latest round of the BC Fast Pilot program.

Innovate BC and the Canadian government sponsor the program, which helps regional small and medium-sized businesses design, build and operate a pilot plant or small demonstration of their technology in real-world conditions. It allows B.C. technology companies to demonstrate the impact of their product, measure the value of their solution and encourage customer adoption.

Kelowna’s CRWN.ai and RainStick have been accepted into the latest cohort, as has Kamloops’ Progressive Planet. CRWN.ai and Progressive Planet will conduct their pilots in the Interior, while RainStick will test its product in the Gulf Islands.

The program started in 2019 and has awarded $8.9 million to 62 B.C. pilot demonstrations.

CRWN.ai provides utility companies worldwide with the data to extend the overall lifetime of transmission lines, decrease environmental and liability risk, optimize revenues and increase operational efficiencies. The pilot project will demonstrate continuous, real-time monitoring of transmission line defects using internet of things devices.

RainStick is currently developing point-of-use water technology with the ability to capture and reuse embodied heat energy water. Its pilot project will demonstrate its flagship technology, the RainStick Shower, and the impact of its circular shower technology to a viable partner and growing industry segment in B.C.

Progressive Planet is an established business-to-business manufacturer whose pioneering technology turns post-consumer glass into high-performance cement using carbon dioxide sequestration. The project will support the development of a pilot plant for its new and proprietary supplementary cementitious material, PozGlass 100G, to begin field trials for large multinational cement companies and concrete producers.
