Accelerate Okanagan received 45 applications for this year’s OKGN Angel Summit, and the group of investors in charge of awarding $225,000 to the winner has reduced the field to the final 24.
The OKGN Angel Summit is a 10 week program where accredited investors and startup founders from across Western Canada are introduced to the world of angel investing through a guided process that includes multiple pitch events and hands-on training sessions.
The process provides participants with a chance to learn how businesses are vetted, complete due diligence, and improve their chances of receiving investment. The program ends with a live public pitch event, where the investors will select one company to receive the $225,000.
Six of the 24 quarter-finalists hail from the Okanagan, and another 13 are from the rest of B.C. The remaining five startups are from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The local companies vying to receive the big cheque on March 16 are EntheoTech Bioscience, Frigus Opus Industries, iMaster Health, Perks Liftwear, Tonit and Tradesflow.
The 24 startups will deliver three-minute pitches to the investors with the hope of being one of the 12 to make it to the semifinal round.
From there, six companies will do a pitch for the investors and the public at the finale on March 16.
