The inaugural Miracle on Okanagan Fundraising Gala was a smashing success, and that means hospital patients and those who support them will be receiving a little bit of sunshine this holiday season.
The gala was held Dec. 3 at The Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna. The money raised went to Delivering Sunshine, a business that sells care packages for parents or anyone else who is going through a tough time and whose circumstances prevent them from obtaining life’s necessities, like a toothbrush or deodorant.
The funds raised during the gala were enough to create 1,000 holiday care packages and 22 night stays at Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.
Delivering Sunshine creator Ashley Bodnar spent this week delivering those holiday care packages to hospitals in Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and Oliver. She also dropped off packages at hospices, support homes and several nursing homes.
“Every single hospital patient in the Okanagan will be getting a package this week as a cheerful gesture,” Bodnar said.
