Barn Owl Brewing has purchased its neighbour.

The south Kelowna brewery announced on its Facebook page Monday that it bought It’s a Bakery last Thursday, Dec. 1, from the Nierfeld family. The bakery is attached to the 1927 heritage barn that is home to Barn Owl Brewing.

Barn Owl in October submitted a liquor licence support application to the City of Kelowna to include It’s A Bakery. At the time, Barn Owl said it was in negotiations to purchase the bakery. The liquor licence support application has not yet appeared before city council.

Barn Owl said in its post the bakery will continue to operate with the same staff, an interim manager and will “offer the same or similar coffee and baked goods you have come to love.”

A name change is also in the works, and it will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Nierfeld family is going to focus on the It’s a Bakery location in West Kelowna’s Lakeview Heights.
