An Okanagan mom who created a specialty care package business is hosting a gala next month, all in support of those who need a helping hand during times of trauma.

Ashley Bodnar created Delivering Sunshine after a traumatic personal experience in May 2021. Her daughter stopped breathing a few days after she was born, and Bodnar spent the next two months by her baby’s side.

It was during that awful time she realized there was little support for parents like her who are all alone in the hospital with their children for weeks or months on end.

Delivering Sunshine helps those parents and anyone else who is going through a tough time and whose circumstances prevent them from obtaining life’s necessities, like a toothbrush or deodorant. Purchasing a Delivering Sunshine package is a thoughtful way to help someone who needs a hand, and 10% of all proceeds are directed to purchasing care packages for Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon.

The Miracle on Okanagan Fundraising Gala is another way in which Bodnar will help those who need support. The gala will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at The Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna, and proceeds from that event will go to holiday care packages for patients in hospitals, palliative and nursing home care facilities, as well as Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon.

Art of Fine Catering will provide the dinner, while dance band Rock Steady will have gala guests hitting the dance floor. There will also be a silent auction.

Tickets can be purchased on the Delivering Sunshine website here.
