Kelowna Chamber of Commerce has named Accelerate Okanagan CEO Brea Lake as its Business Leader of the Year award winner.

Lake is in charge with leading the Okanagan’s burgeoning tech industry and has been in her role since 2019. Lake will be honoured when the chamber hosts its Business Excellence Awards next Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Delta Hotels by Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort.

“There could be no better representative of our 2022 Business Excellence Awards than Brea,” chamber president Pamela Pearson said in a press release. “She personifies all the best in how to weather the economic challenges faced by the tech world over the past several years as well as managing the day-to-day operation of her team while implementing strategic initiatives.”

Lake has championed the growth of the Okanagan tech industry for more than a decade through new entrepreneurial programs, investment initiatives and community-building events. She got started in the industry with Disney’s Interactive Studios and then joined Accelerate Okanagan as its community manager. She was named director of operations before taking over for Raghwa Gopal as the boss in 2019.

“It’s an honour,” Lake said. “Bringing the community together through the Business Excellence Awards strengthens our connection and reminds us of all the good work happening here locally. I’d like to thank the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce for not just recognizing me, but for celebrating all the businesses nominated.”

More than 400 people are expected to attend next week’s awards gala, during which 16 businesses and non-profit organizations will win Business Excellence Awards.
