Those who make Kelowna and Lake Country better places were honoured earlier this month.

Kelowna-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray hosted the local honourees of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee during a ceremony at Kelowna’s Okanagan Mission Hall on Thursday, Sept. 7—the day before Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

“The ceremony was concluded by standing and singing O Canada and God Save the Queen,” Gray said in a press release. “Little did we know then that it would likely be the last time God Save the Queen would be played in our community.”

Kelowna-Lake Country residents were nominated by community members and then reviewed by a non-partisan committee. Those who were deemed worthy received a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pin and a local recognition service medallion.

“I would like to congratulate all honourees of this recognition and thank them for their work, volunteerism and efforts in community engagement and service, which reflect the spirit of Kelowna-Lake Country,” Gray said.

The Canadian Platinum Jubilee pin was created to mark the 70th anniversary year of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.
