Bekins Kelowna is more than just a moving and storage company; it is heavily involved with the communities it serves.

In line with being a company that offers a family-culture working environment, Bekins Moving and Storage also takes great pride in being an active community member through various charity initiatives.

Bekins Kelowna is doing its annual Prospera Place Food Drives with the Kelowna Rockets. Many people and families in our community struggle to put food on the table, and Bekins is stepping up and making a difference. Bekins owner Nathan Miller has lined up three dates where you can donate food items during a Kelowna Rockets game. Be sure to stop by Prospera Place on Nov. 5, Jan. 21, and March 1 to help the team at Bekins help the less fortunate. Look for Bekins signs and booths at the main entrance and suite holders entrance to make your donation. The Bekins family hopes to collect 1,500 pounds of food to be delivered to Central Okanagan Food Bank.

Beyond collecting food for Kelowna’s food bank, Bekins is helping other worthy causes. It was recently a sponsor for the OKGN Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament that raises money for Mamas for Mamas, a local non-profit dedicated to helping mothers in need. The two-day event took place at Predator Ridge Resort and included a gala event, silent auction, dinner and (of course) golfing. In attendance were numerous NHL players and 150 golfers, and collectively more than $40,000 was raised.

Up next from your local moving and storage experts is its title sponsorship of Her International Golf Tournament, a charitable event by Kevin Edgecombe where he raises money to build schools, hospitals and toilets in Nepal. This incredible event will include dinner, a wine-tasting competition, pie making contest, a live auction and a silent auction. As the title sponsor, Bekins will have hole activation, where it will be giving away hats, golf balls and margaritas.

Bekins Moving and Storage set a goal to be more involved with community and charity events, and for them that meant having a balance of participation, where it isn’t only about money. It had four pillars it wanted to cover: local support, international support, hands-on involvement and collaborating with another local business. The Mamas for Mamas event checks off the local support, while the Her International hits international, and the food bank collection fills in the hands-on.

To round off Bekins’ goal of collaborating with another local organization, it is working with the Okanagan chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization—of which Miller is the current president—on its advent calendar initiative. Each calendar has different prizes and giveaways from local companies. In most cases companies will go around selling these calendars to raise money for the Child Advocacy Centre in partnership with KGH Foundation. However, Miller has decided to purchase them himself and, in the true spirit of the holidays, give them away.

Bekins Moving and Storage is more than just local storage and the Okanagan’s moving experts; it is the epitome of what a local business should be and a great model for the Okanagan. Contact the team today to learn more about any of its causes or if you need moving services.
