Toys “R” Us is refusing to say how many employees will be off the job when the national toy retailer closes its Kamloops store this weekend.

In a statement to Castanet Kamloops, Toys “R” Us confirmed its Tournament Capital location is closing for good.

A representative said the company decided not to renew its lease, which recently came to an end.

“Toys “R” Us Canada has made the business decision not to renew it at this time,” Aimee Cook said.

“However, they do hope to return to the region at some point in the future.”

When Castanet Kamloops asked how many employees will be impacted and what will happen to them, Toys “R” Us refused to say.

“At this time, Toys “R” Us would like to politely decline participation in this piece,” Paige Exell said via email.

Store employees have told Castanet they are not allowed to speak with reporters.

Toys “R” Us has been in its standalone location on Notre Dame Drive since 1995. The store is expected to close on Saturday.
