Summerland’s Unisus International School is beaming with pride.

After only four years, the school will celebrate its first Grade 12 class with the recognized ‘gold standard’ universities are looking for: the International Baccalaureate diploma.

“With our first Unisus cohort graduating with the International Baccalaureate diploma, we continue our ambitious goals to ensure each student is empowered and grows as a confident learner and leader; and each graduate is equipped to become a true leader in the global context,” Head of School Dr. Beverley von Zielonka says.

Recognized by the B.C. Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate diploma is globally recognized in 150 countries.

“Students’ global understanding, reach and opportunities are accelerated to a very high level,” director of recruitment Blaine Melnyk says.

The IB places education within a global context. IB trained teachers follow the best internationally recognized teaching practices and demonstrate the highest standards in their programming.

Students who achieve the IB diploma often receive first-year university credits. IB grads are statistically more likely accepted to their university of choice, and post-secondary scholarships are commonly available to IB graduate students.

Looking towards future graduating cohorts, Unisus proudly offers the Leaders and Scholars Merit Scholarship for students currently in Grade 10 “who share our value to make a significant leadership through service contribution to our community and who have the potential to fulfil the challenging requirements of the world-leading International Baccalaureate diploma program.”

A limited number of Merit scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate leadership through contribution to community, strong academic achievement and strength of character. Current Grade 10 students applications are due by Dec. 15, 2021. For those interested in Grade 11, which would be a September 2022 start, applications are due Feb. 11, 2022.

Von Zielonka will host local meet and greet opportunities in January and February in the Central and South Okanagan to showcase the advantages of a Unisus School IB education.
