Kalamalka Cannabis has had great support from the community and its customers in its first year, so it will host a big “thank you” celebration for its first birthday this Saturday.

The store, which is located on Vernon’s south side, will give away door prizes and swag bags, popcorn and cotton candy, and will have cannabis representatives on hand to talk about their products. There will also be amazing savings throughout the store.

That family-like atmosphere will mirror the vibe that one gets when they walk into Kalamalka Cannabis, which is located at 1220 Kalamalka Lake Rd., right behind Toro’s liquor store.

“One of our big things is we make sure we greet every single person who walks through the door,” Kalamalka Cannabis owner Mike Dagostini says. “It’s a very interactive experience. We want every customer to have an amazing experience and leave feeling better than when they walked in.”

Kalamalka Cannabis hires only employees who are active cannabis consumers, and each of them has a specific area of expertise. No matter what kind of cannabis you are seeking, there is a good chance one of Kalamalka’s representatives will be able to tell you everything you need to know about it.

Dagostini points out that even veteran cannabis users can end up needing more information about their choice given Kalamalka’s massive selection and the ever-evolving research and development that is going into the cannabis industry.

“You go from a black market, where you had limited options and no way to be sure the product was clean and safe,” he says. “Now you can walk in, and we’ll have hundreds of choices for you from producers that go through rigorous inspections and third-party product testing to ensure the quality and THC content is accurate and correct.”

Kalamalka Cannabis, which features a discreet entrance for those who are still a bit shy, is still attracting new customers all the time. One of the more popular demographics for first-time users are baby boomers and the group that precedes them, which is trying to find alternatives for prescription drugs, sleep aids and anti-inflammatories.

Since Kalamalka Cannabis is family owned, Dagostini is all about shopping locally when it comes to his product. He says he shops local growers “aggressively” when stocking his shelves.

“Whenever I do my orders, I’m always looking for growers that are in B.C.,” he says. “Obviously we carry other products, but I try to get my hands on anything from B.C., especially if it’s grown in the Okanagan region.”

Now that Kalamalka Cannabis has been open for a year, Dagostini is excited to see what the future holds.

Kalamalka Cannabis‘ first birthday bash gets underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continues until 10 p.m.
