The long winter of COVID discontent is over, and people cannot wait to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.
The pandemic is still limiting what can be done in terms of travel, so recreational vehicles are still flying off the lot at Traveland RV in West Kelowna. Sales exploded last year when people realized they could get away without interacting with people outside of their bubbles, and that frame of mind is showing no signs of slowing down.
“The new first-time buyers are really enjoying it, and they’re realizing how fun camping is,” Traveland RV general sales manager Tyler Steel says. “Getting out with the family … everyone’s been in lockdown, and they can get the kids out of the house and off the screens and go by a lake somewhere.”
It appears the pandemic has made people realize that RVs and campers are the perfect option when it comes to vacationing your way. Instead of saving up for each vacation, the only work that RV owners have to do is figure out where to explore next.
In essence, it’s a reusable holiday.
“A lot of people love camping together, so new buyers who got into the market last year, now their friends and family are getting one,” Steel says. “There are still a lot of first-time buyers.”
There are a finite number of campsites in B.C., so people are buying units that allow them to go to locations that don’t have power hookups. They are really able to get away from it all while still enjoying the comforts of an RV or camper. Popular units are those with a 12-volt system that feature solar panels to charge the battery and propane that runs the furnace.
Inventory is tough to keep up these days, so Steel suggests people act quickly if they want to get out and explore this summer.
“Most of them are arriving on time, but they should be acting sooner than later to ensure they’re getting it before the season starts,” he says.
Do not make a hasty decision, though. Steels notes it’s important to ensure you secure the RV that is perfect for you.
“It’s very important to get the right floor plan,” he says. “Being one of the largest RV dealers, we have access to a significant number of product lines with varying floor plans, like Rockwood, Springdale, Tiffin, Open Range, Alliance, Entegra, Wildwood, Nucamp and Taxa.”
