A local RV dealership has reached its 35th anniversary mission despite having to complete it during a global pandemic.

Voyager RV Centre, which opened in Lake Country in 1989, wanted to raise $100,000 for local charities to celebrate its 35th birthday in 2019. It finally reached its target recently when it presented a $14,385 cheque to the Child Advocacy Centre of Kelowna.

“After we went through the closure with COVID, we knew now more than ever we needed to come back and not only complete our goal but continue to support the community that has so generously supported us now for 36 years,” Voyager RV vice-president Jason Friesen said in a press release.

Each department within the Voyager family was committed to making a donation for every RV sold during the campaign. The latest donation was raised through sales during July, which happened to be a record sales month for the company.

“We were thrilled with the amount of the final donation,” Friesen said. “It was an excellent way to wrap up the campaign and to celebrate and thank the Voyager staff who have worked so hard to help us achieve our goal.”

Voyager donated a total of $103,635 to Central Okanagan Food Bank, BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society of BC, BC Cancer Foundation, Mamas for Mamas, ALS Society of BC, Kelowna Women’s Shelter and, finally, the CAC of Kelowna.
