Okanagan BrainTrust wants parents to know that their children are eligible to receive supports through BrainTrust Canada’s youth concussion clinic if they suffer a head injury.

The clinic is a medically supervised approach to assisting children and young adults between five and 25 heal safely from a concussion so they can return to the sports, school and activities they enjoy.

“Increasing knowledge about the impact of concussions and the services available is vital to ensure youth and their families know how to access support when a child or youth sustains a concussion,” BrainTrust Canada CEO Mia Burgess said in a press release. “An untreated concussion can negatively impact a child/youth’s life, months, or even years post-injury.

“The goal of BrainTrust Canada’s youth concussion clinic is to start recovery as soon as possible after injury to help prevent long-term concussion symptoms.”

The youth concussion clinic provides parents with one-to-one guidance, information, tools and the reassurance they need after their child or youth sustains a concussion. Every client receives a thorough intake along with a detailed recovery plan developed by a concussion physician and clinician.

“The youth concussion clinic is made possible by funding provided by the KGH Foundation Kiwanis Legacy Fund, Burgess said. “We are thankful for this generous contribution that ensures qualifying children and youth residing in the Central Okanagan have access to the youth concussion clinic free of cost.”
