The City of Penticton’s economic development specialist Andrew Kemp is leaving Penticton after 14 months to follow his wife to Suva, Fiji, as she accepts an “opportunity of a lifetime” job.

“Andrew was a great addition to our team and was quick to integrate himself into our organization and community,” Penticton’s director of development services Blake Laven said.

“We wish Andrew and his wife great success as they take up their new life in Fiji.”

The city will not be immediately replacing Kemp. Instead, they will be re-evaluating economic development services in light of the pandemic.

“With the disruptive and unpredictable presence of COVID-19 continuing to evolve and change, long-range functions like economic development are difficult to administer,” Blake said.

“In the meantime we will continue to implement relevant portions of the city’s 2018-2022 Economic Development Strategic Plan using existing development services staff and select consultancies, combined with continued guidance from the Economic Prosperity and Development Services Advisory Committee.”
