Local farmers, ranchers, and food and beverage producers have a chance to get a piece of a $300,000 pie from the provincial government to help sell their products online.

The government is providing the money to help the province’s producers overcome lost sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each producer is eligible to receive up to $5,000 under the Buy BC program.

“British Columbians have come together during these difficult times and continue to show their strength and support for each other,” BC Agriculture Minister Lana Popham said in a press release. “With the new Buy BC e-commerce funding, farmers and food and beverage processors can create a new avenue to sell their products directly to consumers all over the province, while maintaining physical distancing and safe practices.

“Moving to online sales gives customers the opportunity to continue to Buy BC and enjoy fresh food, while supporting families in our communities.”

Online applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from this Friday, May 15, to May 29, or when all the money has been awarded.

More information about the program can be found here.
