It’s full steam ahead for a Kelowna electric boat manufacturer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Templar Marine Group this week launched its newest product, the Picnic Boat. It’s a 20-foot vessel that is the little sister to the company’s flagship product, the Cruiser 26.

The Picnic 20 is the only electric boat available and built in Western Canada. It is designed specifically for boaters looking for zero carbon emitting options. It starts at $49,900, and buyers can customize their purchases.

“We are extremely excited to release an environmentally friendly product at a very reasonable price point for families who will be focusing on local staycations and curbing expenses like $150 per day on fuel for gas boats,” Templar founder and CEO Mark Fry said in a press release.

“We wanted to provide a low cost option to get out with the family and enjoy hot summer days on the water, which we have done with the Picnic 20 line of e-boats.”

The Picnic Boat seats 10 adults, and is 100% electric, quiet and maintenance free. It can be used for six continuous hours at a speed of 9 kilometres per hour.

Optional features include a forward cabin toilet, central heating, refrigerator and fully enclosed cabin.

It requires only an overnight recharge from a standard 110-volt, 15-amp outlet.
