Coast Hotels is doing what it can to help front-line workers be at their best during the COVID-19 battle.

The company earlier this month launched its Coast Cares program, which offers hotel rooms to health-care workers and first responders for just $59.

“When we saw media stories about nurses and health-care workers sleeping in their cars, we wanted to be part of the solution,” hotel operations vice-president Kelli Steer said in a press release.

“While the hotel industry is also hurting during this crisis, we have empty rooms and we’re in a position to help.”

Coast Hotels, including its Kelowna location, is making sure its properties are virus-free through a variety of tactics. These include increased frequency of cleaning key public spaces, wiping down frequently touched items such as elevator buttons and door handles, as well as completing comprehensive room cleaning and leaving additional time between guest room turnover.

Coast Hotels has closed its swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, fitness centres and business centres. Many properties have also closed their food and beverage facilities at this time.
