Last month a West Kelowna company started to build ‘virus barriers’ for essential service workers on the front lines, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

“I know we have a skilled, experienced, hard-working team, so we went right to work building barriers seven days a week,” said Harold Loewen, owner and manager of Mouldings & More.

In the beginning, he saw a need at the food bank because of food hoarding at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My team then decided that it would be a great opportunity to help the food bank since more and more people have lost jobs and are using the food banks to be able to feed their families.”

Mouldings & More installed barriers for the front-line workers at the Lakeview Market, which manager Barb Hill says has made a big difference.

“It makes the staff and the customers feel so much better,” Hill said.

That’s when Lakeview Market offered to match the donations made to the food bank from Mouldings & More, for a total of $5,000.

“The idea of giving back when so people just need a little help was wonderful,” Hill said.

Mouldings & More says it is expanding to other cities, with deliveries reaching Penticton, Kamloops and Vernon areas, and it will be shipping plexiglass barriers as well.

The company will also continue to contribute 20% of profits from plexiglass safety shields through April and May to charity.
