More people in the Okanagan will have pearly whites thanks to a $40,000 donation recently.

Jean and Bill Redmond recently donated $40,000 to the fundraising campaign for Okanagan College’s Health Sciences Centre. Jean Redmond spent more than 40 years working as a certified dental assistant, and she is excited to see their donation go towards a modern training facility that will be incorporated into the HSC.

“I am thrilled that students will have a new and modern training facility,” Redmond said in a press release. “A modern clinic will inspire students during their education and give them a sense of pride in their chosen career. We’re happy to support people who are going into this training.”

The new clinic will feature all the amenities of a modern dental office, with a reception room, state-of-the-art operation stations, a dental manufacturing lab and sterilization room.

“This gift will give our students the ability to learn in a dental clinic that will match their employers in terms of advanced digital technology,” Okanagan College Foundation executive director Helen Jackman said in a press release.

“Students will graduate ready for work, but they will also give back to our community. Our dental clinic is open to the public for three weeks every May offering low cost cleanings and other services to families.”

The HSC dental clinic reception area will be named after the Redmonds in recognition of their donation. Bill Redmond, who co-owns Dockside Marine Centre, and Tow and Stow Dry Marina, is a big fan of the workforce talent the college produces.

“Okanagan College fills a gap in our education system that is really important by providing skills training, whether for trades or health care,” Bill Redmon said. “We’re proud to be able to support the college.”
