Junior Achievement of BC will be doing its part this Thursday in an attempt to feed the tech sector in the Okanagan and beyond.

JABC has invited more than 200 teens from high schools throughout the Okanagan to attend JABC TechWorks Kelowna, which will take place on Thursday at Okanagan College.

The event has been held in Vancouver for the past four years and in Victoria for the last two. This will mark the first time it will take place in Kelowna.

JABC puts on the event because it hears from both tech and traditional industry leaders that students are not prepared for career in the tech industry, and therefore there are not enough qualified candidates to meet employer demands. JABC TechWorks will “energize and motivate” high school students pursue a technology-related educational pathway, according to the organization.

Some of the breakout session topics will feature visual effects and animation, robotics, women in technology and innovation in aviation. Speakers will include Yeti Farm Creative’s Ashley Ramsay, Dyspatch’s Veronica Best and RBC’s Ray Warren. B.C. Minister of Education Rob Fleming will appear via video.
