Vernon artist and director Amanda Shatzko was recently recognized as one of the province’s top young business leaders.

Business in Vancouver announced its 2019 Forty Under 40 award winners last month, and Shatzko, who is president of AS Consulting and Art, was voted among the best. Five judges reviewed nominations to select the top 40 representing a variety of industries.

In fact, Shatzko was the lone person from the Interior to crack the provincial list.

“Whether they were professionals, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, non-profit execs, I was looking for nominees that were committed, had achieved obvious successes and were well-rounded,” judge Cameron Burke said in a press release.

Shatzko so impressed one judge that she got an opportunity out of it. Glacier Media’s editorial vice-president, Kirk LaPointe, reached out and asked her to write an op-ed piece as a notable business leader.

“The BIV Forty Under 40 award winners are leaders and role models who make outstanding contributions to their workplaces and communities,” said William Westeringh of Fasken, one of the event’s sponsors. “Their accomplishments raise the bar for others in the formative years of their careers, propelling business growth in BC. We know their journey does not end here. In fact, their career-long adventure is just beginning.”
