UBC Okanagan will have a new face heading its leadership team through the new decade.

Professor Lesley Cormack will take over the school’s top position of deputy vice-chancellor and principal. She’ll assume the position from Deborah Buszard July 1.

“I am very pleased to welcome professor Cormack to the UBC family and to this important position at our Okanagan campus,” UBC president Santa Ono said.

“With her strong academic background, proven leadership and outstanding experience, I have no doubt that she will bring thoughtful and dynamic direction to UBCO.”

Cormack has spent the past 10 years as dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta. Prior to that, she held a similar position at Simon Fraser University.

“UBC Okanagan has built a well-earned reputation as an innovative research university with an entrepreneurial spirit. and I can’t wait to contribute to its success,” Cormack said.

“I’m looking forward to spending some time to get to know the campus—its students, faculty and staff—and its community partners who play a crucial role in the success of any post-secondary institution.”

Ono added the Okanagan campus experienced tremendous growth under Buszard’s leadership, and looks forward to working with Cormack to continue that growth and advance the school’s excellence in research and innovation, teaching and learning and community engagement.”
