Okanagan Edge Staff - Jan 16, 2020 - Biz Releases
As expected, natural gas and electric use has skyrocketed this week in the cold and snowy Interior.
FortisBC reports natural gas use on Tuesday increased by 50% compared to the previous Tuesday, which was Jan. 7. Compared to an average January day, natural gas use on Tuesday was 75% higher.
Meanwhile, the amount of electricity used on Tuesday was up 35% compared to the previous week. The last seven days were also 4% higher than last year’s highest week, which was the first week of January 2019.
Tuesday’s high in Kelowna was -16.6 C as opposed to 0.5 C seven days earlier.
FortisBC issued a press release earlier this week that included ways for consumers to avoid getting a seasonal spike on their next energy bill.
