More details are emerging around the short-term plans for the former OK Builders site on Ellis Street.
As Castanet News reported in November, owners of the property are looking to repurpose the existing building for retail and commercial rental units.
Long range plans could include higher density on the property, including a mix of residential and commercial uses.
The owner, in his proposal to the city, is hoping to use the existing building for a small deli restaurant and perhaps a boutique grocery store.
However, staff note no tenants have yet been confirmed.
“With several residential towers being built within one to two blocks, they are recognizing that the area is transforming and that there is now critical mass to support commercial development in the area,” staff indicated in their report for an upcoming Jan. 21 public hearing.
Council did give its unanimous support for the rezoning of the property to accommodate the project back in November, triggering this month’s public hearing.
