Blackmun Bay getting smaller
Wayne Moore - Nov 12, 2019 - Biz Releases

For the third time since it was proposed about two years ago, developers of Blackmun Bay have scaled back the project.

The original application for the Casa Loma development called for a building height of 14 storeys and up to 740 apartment, townhouse and hotel rooms.

That has since been scaled back to 10 storeys and a maximum of 700 rooms, then nine storeys and 700 rooms and now eight storeys and 350 rooms.

The latest revisions to the massive development came following last month’s public hearing attended by more than 425 people, most of whom expressed concerns about the size and scale of the project, which would also include a winery and 241-slip marina.

Council will receive the information Tuesday, along with a summary of the Oct. 23 public hearing.

It will also be asked to either ask that bylaws for third reading be prepared with the proposed amendments to density, height and number of units be included, or to deny outright the development application and close the file.

Should council opt to prepare the bylaw for third reading, a second public hearing could be required if additional technical studies are needed to evaluate the amendments.

Council narrowly approved the last iteration of the project going to public hearing.
