Average Kelowna rent dips

The October National Rent Report indicates the cost of renting some apartments in Kelowna went down month-over-month.

According to the report, produced by Rentals.ca, the average rent for a two-bedroom suite was pegged at $1,634 in September. That’s a 9.9 per cent month-over-month decrease from August.

It was the largest recorded decrease for one or two bedroom units within the 34 cities included in the survey.

The average monthly cost of a one-bedroom suite in Kelowna came in at $1,374. The month-over-month comparable was not available.

In all, Kelowna finished right in the middle nationally, 17th out of 34 cities rated.

Nationally, Toronto topped the list with an average rent for a one-bedroom home at $2,304, down 1.1 per cent from August. A two-bedroom averages out at $2,908, virtually unchanged.

The average Canadian property was listed at $1,954 a month, up 2.1 per cent from the previous month.

The September rental rate topped the previous high of $1,953 in June.
