A new development taking shape in Rutland will not only be comprised of 50 modern residences, but also be built thanks to the support of an unlikely partnership.

Eden Kelowna will be Rutland’s newest condo community community and it will be built with the help of the Kelowna Christian Centre Society (KCCS) and the team at Ecora. According to Pastor David Kalamen, to proceed with the development, KCCS needed to find a partner who was interested in more than just a development project.

The KCCS leaderships’ priority has been to create a synergy between home, school, and church. Two years ago, the need to build a new school became apparent to the organization, and as a result, the Eden project was established on the Highway 33 frontage of the KCCS property.

According to Kalamen, finances gleaned from the project will enable financing of a new school building that will have a focus on Christian discipleship, along with preparing students to be technology and entrepreneurial savvy.

“The internet has changed and enhanced the entire learning process. We believe our schools are on the cutting edge with this new technology, and we want to have a building that reflects that and offers options to students in terms of
their learning style,” said Kalamen.

The Eden will feature one and two bedroom condos in Rutland’s Uptown neighbourhood with prices starting from the mid $200,000s, with sales slated to begin in the fall. The homes will have a distinct horizontal streamlined look with extensive use of aluminum and modern materials and range from 527 to 872 sq. ft.

The condos will boast large balconies, attractive landscaping, some will feature vaulted ceilings, and buyers can choose from light or dark colour palettes.

“Rutland has always been looked upon as the poor brother,” added Kalamen. “But, it’s not that. The people are beautiful, rich, and wonderful. We feel like we’re called to be here and lift up the heart of the people of this vibrant part of the city.”

The new school will offer pre-school to Grade 12 for up to 400 students, and construction on the project won’t begin until financing is secured.

With close proximity to UBCO, it is anticipated that the condos will be snapped up quickly by first time buyers.
