A two-bedroom apartment in Kelowna is the fourth most expensive among major Canadian cities.

The median cost in July was $1,780, according to PadMapper. Only Vancouver, Toronto and Burnaby are more expensive cities in which to rent a two-bedroom apartment.

The $1,780 figure was up 4.7 per cent over last month and up a whopping 12.7 per cent over this time last year.

As for the median price of one-bedroom flats, Kelowna is tied with Kitchener, Ont., as the seventh most expensive Canadian city at $1,280 per month. That remains steady from June but represents a 10.3 per cent increase from July 2018.

It costs less than $1,000 per month to rent one-bedroom apartments Winnipeg, Halifax, Abbotsford, Edmonton, Regina and Saskatoon.

PadMapper analyzes rental data from hundreds of thousands of active listings across the country. Listings are then aggregated on a monthly basis to calculate median asking rents for the top 24 most populous metropolitan areas.

The report is based on all data available in the month prior to publication. Any data that is reported does not include short-term or Airbnb listings.
