It’s Indigenous Peoples Day across Canada, and those in B.C. are celebrating by finding new ways to share the province’s rich collection of Indigenous tourism products and experiences.

Indigenous Tourism BC and the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate with one another in an effort to support Indigenous tourism in the province. The organizations pledge to ensure business owners and operators are equipped with the necessary skills, and resources, to meet increased demand for authentic cultural experiences.

“Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in B.C. and a key economic driver,” Indigenous Tourism BC board chair Brenda Baptiste said in a press release. “Similar expansion of Indigenous tourism relies on stakeholder collaborations, such as our new partnership with BCAFN. We look forward to working closely with BCAFN to promote economic development in Indigenous communities across the province.”

The memorandum was signed during the opening ceremony of ITBC’s annual Indigenous Cultural Festival in Victoria.
