The Nesters Market grocery near downtown Kelowna area is closing.

Tipsters reached out to Castanet to say the Bernard Avenue and Gordon Drive location will be closing officially on June 15.

“No warning, and we are told by staff they were only told last week,” an anonymous tipster said.

Castanet reached out to Nesters’ head office for more details and was told a local representative would be available on Tuesday.

Area residents say they are upset by the news.

“It’s an essential part of the neighbourhood. There are so many elderly people in this area that rely on this wonderful store,” one resident said. “We are sad for the employees and for those of us who depend on it.”

Nesters has two other locations in the Central Okanagan, one in West Kelowna off Anders Road, and another near Kelowna International Airport at Pier Mac Way.
