A Kelowna human resources professional has been nominated for a prestigious award in her industry.

Miranda Birkbeck, who is an HR advisor at First West Credit Union, is a finalist for the 2019 Rising Star Award. The honour recognizes young Chartered Professionals in Human Resources from B.C. and Yukon who are making “significant contributions to the industry.”

Birkbeck was nominated for her work in implementing First West’s first application tracking system, proposing to create the first harmonized employee referral program and trimming 618 hours of HR administration annually.

“Miranda was a natural finalist for the Rising Star Award,” CPHR BC and Yukon president and CEO Anthony Ariganello said in a press release. “She has shown the ability to oversee and manage numerous projects, and she was instrumental in the development of the new employee value proposition at First West Credit Union.

“Her commitment to higher education and giving back as a mentor and coach is a prime example of someone who is lighting the HR community on fire.”

The three finalists will be recognized and the award will be presented to the winner at the HR Conference and Tradeshow in Vancouver on April 2.
