Experienced tourism experts had a big role in designing the new tourism management diploma program at Okanagan College.
The program’s first intake of students will take place this fall at the college’s Revelstoke Centre, which will also host an information session on April 16 at 7 p.m.
“This diploma has been designed with a great deal of industry input,” OC director of food, wine and tourism Jonathan Rouse said in a press release. “Our goal is to provide students a program that will help advance their tourism careers, while helping employers find the skilled workers they need. And what better place than Revelstoke for this kind of program?”
Tourism employers are “feeling the pinch” when it comes to finding experienced managers, so they are pleased to hear that Okanagan College is taking this step.
“From the location, to the access to tourism employers, to the quality of instruction at Okanagan College, all the components are there to set students up for success and help them distinguish themselves in tourism management roles,” Revelstoke Mountain Resort vice-president of operations Peter Nielsen said. “I couldn’t be more excited to see the program roll out this fall—and to be able to tap into this new pool of talent before and after they graduate.”
