Okanagan College has its new entrepreneur-in-residence.

Jason Richards, a successful entrepreneur who sold one of his first companies for nearly $30 million, will provide the college’s business students with first-hand insight and advice in a volunteer capacity.

“Jason is a natural fit for this role,” Okanagan School of Business dean Bill Gillett said in a press release. “He has hard-won insights on what it is like to envision, start, grow–and sell–a business.”

Richards is currently the CEO of Kelowna’s school-focused startup called Minga. He will keep an office at Okanagan College and will guest lecture in classes, meet with students individually and will brainstorm with professors about modern business practices.

“As a kid, I would have rather spent six hours designing a robot to clean my room than the 20 minutes it would take me to do it myself,” Richards said. “One of the principles I’ve clung to is to go out of your way to help people be successful. I think this role is an expression of how I feel about young entrepreneurs, especially those OC students taking business administration.”
