Kelowna has moved up a notch on the busiest airport in Canada list.

A record 2.08 million passengers went through Kelowna International Airport in 2018, making it the 10th busiest airport in the nation.

Kelowna bumped another B.C. airport, Victoria’s, from the national top 10 with its record-setting year.

“Surpassing two million passengers and reaching top 10 this past year are incredible accomplishments for YLW and the Okanagan,” YLW airport director Sam Samaddar said in a press release. “It’s an exciting time for YLW. We are in a period of tremendous growth and the increase in travellers translates directly to a boost in the economy and support for local businesses.”

The final count was actually 2,080,372 passengers, which was an increase of 486,766 people when compared to 2015.

YLW will spend more than $240 million over the next two years to complete its largest terminal expansion. A larger departures lounge, expanded security screening, and more food and beverage services are on tap.

December was the airport’s busiest month, as 210,926 passengers went through the doors. August was the second busiest, with 201,485 passengers.
