UPDATE: 9:50 a.m.

At 5 a.m. Friday morning a truck rammed into Peachland’s VantageOne Credit Union twice, damaging the side of the building where the night deposit drop box is kept, in what appears to be an attempted robbery.

VantageOne’s CEO Glenn Benischek says the robbery looks to have been unsuccessful.

“Nothing seems to have been taken, we are still investigating. The ATM itself has been left undamaged,” Benischek said.

“My guess is they were looking to get easy cash and it wasn’t as easy as they would have thought.”

Benischek says the truck used in the ramming was allegedly stolen.

Surprisingly, Benischek says the branch will be open today, but the drive-thru ATM will be out of order.

UPDATE: 9 a.m.

Castanet has learned that it is the side portion of the VantageOne Credit Union in Peachland that has been damaged.

The caller, who asked not to be identified but indicated he works at a credit union in B.C., say this part of the building is where the night deposit safe and drive through automatic teller machine is located.

“This is where the night deposit safe was ripped out of the building,” he said. “The chunk of metal on the right side of the picture is the faceplate from the night deposit safe.”

More coming…
