B.C. farm workers who get paid by piece rate will have their wages increased by 11.5 per cent next week.

The increase, which was announced earlier this year, is the same rate of increase made to the general minimum wage in June.

Piece rates are set for 15 crops, including Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, apples, peas, grapes and green beans. Agricultural economist Karen Taylor is preparing a report on the piece rate system to ensure it is fair for both workers and employers.

The wage increase will take place on Tuesday, which is Jan. 1.
